The Gorges property has only 10 units, which are individual stone and thatch cottages set on the edge of the gorge over 800 feet above the Zambezi River: four double-story suites with wide sheltered balconies and six single-story suites with verandahs. The rooms and main building are tastefully appointed and cater for an international clientele. The gardens are beautiful and there is a swimming pool. There is no air-conditioning, but there are fans. Gorges Lodge offers an all-inclusive rate, which includes accommodations, 3 meals, airport transfers, transfers to the center of town and a choice of 2 activities daily, laundry service and a full bar. Rates for accommodations with breakfast only of half-board are also available. Activities Victoria Falls and the Rainforest* A definite must for all visitors to the area! View the magnificent Victoria Falls and its rainforest from Livingstone’s statue to the treacherous boiling point. The forest is rich in bird life, butterflies and wild flowers as well as several resident bushbuck, baboons and vervet monkeys. Drop off and pick up is from the rain forest entrance. Be sure to take your camera but ensure it is protected from the ever present mist. Raincoats are available at Gorges or can be rented at the entrance gate. Allow between one and two hours for this activity, depending on how much of the Falls you wish to see. Champagne Cruise (Sundowner Cruise)* A relaxing and splendid way to see the mighty Zambezi River with its magnificent sunsets above the Victoria Falls. Enjoy hot and cold snacks while sipping cocktails from the deck of a guided river boat. It is common to see elephant, hippo, crocodile and a variety of birdlife. Gorges drops you off for the cruise and will then collect you from the Vic Falls hotel at approximately 6:00 pm to take you back to the lodge. Village Tour* Visit an authentic traditional village and participate in some of the actual real-life daily activities. This guided tour takes you both to a village and the local primary school approximately 3 kms from the lodge. The school is not available on holidays or weekends. Watch and participate in singing and dancing, crushing of maize into meal, plowing the fields and brewing the local beer. The school children are a special treat and welcome you with delight to visit and see their classrooms and progress. This experience is extremely popular and one not easily forgotten. Advance notice (24 hours) is required so the village representatives can be available for you. Traditional Dancing* See & photograph up to 75 dancers and musicians performing nightly at the Victoria Falls Craft Village. Several indigenous African tribes are represented and each performance is explained and narrated before hand so you understand the spiritual meanings. The show proper starts at 7:00pm but warm ups begin at 6:30pm. It ends at approximately 8:00pm and you are back at the lodge by about 8:30pm. Gorges will drop you off and collect you from the Craft Village directly outside the entrance gate. This is a wonderful show, highly recommended. We are confident you will not be disappointed. Game Drive in the Zambezi National Park A 2-3 hour game drive with a professional guide through the African bush in an open safari vehicle. Travel through the riverine vegetation along the Zambezi river or drive through the grassland vlei of Chamabonda. Both venues offer a fair chance of seeing numerous species of mammals such as elephant, buffalo, kudu, impala, giraffe, warthog, duiker, steenbok and sable. There are also predators such as wild dog, lion, leopard, jackal and the smaller carnivores. If luck is on your side, you may spot one of these. The birdlife is abundant and never disappointing. Night Game Drive: Drive through the eerie African bush at night when the predators start moving around. Again, you will have a professional guide in an open safari vehicle. The activity is by special request and requires advance notice. The price of this depends on how many people are occupying a vehicle. Horseback Riding: View wildlife and the African bush on horse back. This provides an excellent opportunity to closely approach some wildlife since the animals are more at ease with the horses. Elephant, buffalo and antelope are often seen and an experienced guide accompanies all rides. All grades of riders are welcome and your ride will be coordinated according to your abilities. * Activities included in our 'All-Inclusive Rate'. White Water Rafting: For the adventure seeker. Raft down the fast water of the mighty Zambezi River. Below the Falls a series of rapids dot this otherwise tranquil river, some of which are class 5 rapids. You can choose between half and full day and you can participate with rowing or you can simply be a passenger. Please save some energy for the climb out of the 100+ meter gorge. Restrictions limit this activity to fit individuals. Gorges will drop you off in town and the rafting company will drop you off right at the lodge after your trip. Bungi Jumping: Only for the brave hearted! Jump off the 110 meter high bridge(with dual safety harnesses) that links Zimbabwe with Zambia. This activity is restricted to those in good health, 14 years or older weighing less than 140 kilograms. Flight of Angels - Fixed Wing: View the Victoria Falls and all its splendor from a bird’s eye view in a small aircraft. Choose between a shorter 25 minute flight over the Falls or a longer 40 minute one that involves a bit of game viewing in the National Park and along the Zambezi river. This activity should be booked well in advance as it is quite popular. Flight of Angels - Chopper: This also needs to be booked in advance. Again, there is a choice between a short 13 minute ride over the Falls or a longer 30 minute one that includes a bit of game viewing. There is a middle seat in the chopper so a window seat can not be guaranteed. Canoeing: Inquire to the possibilities as there are several canoeing trips from the Botswana border to Victoria Falls town above the Falls. Options include a wine route, wildlife trails and white water canoeing. Ultralight or Microlight: View Victoria Falls in a private, light, low-noise aircraft. All aircraft take only one passenger so you receive personal attention from your pilot. River Boarding: Surf the grade 5 Zambezi River on individual boogie boards.
