Boston 06 South africa/Botswana..another couple |
Hello, Stephen!
Thanks for asking.
I will start with my only (minor) complaint: Both our wives' luggage got lost in Heathrow, which I consider the result of a too-short layover. You were right that two hours is plenty of time to get yourself from one terminal to the other, but their luggage didn't make it. It caught up with them a couple of days later in KwaZulu-Natal.
Leaving that aside, it was a splendid trip, and we all complimented you repeatedly on your choices of guest houses and everything else. All went very, very smoothly. The cars were good, and the guest houses on the Garden Route were excellent. On the nights we made our own arrangements we stayed in Plettenberg Bay and in Cape L'Agulhas. In Plet we stayed an "An Ocean Watch," probably the most luxurious place of all and with an incredible view, but very reasonably priced. In Cape L'Agulhas we stayed at the Agulhas Country Lodge. Also a fine place, with perhaps the best food we had anywhere. I pass those two along for your future clients in case you are not familiar with them.
The Botswana camps were all terrific. I personally liked the Kwando Lagoon camp the most although we happened to see more animals at Kwara. I was delighted with the guides and the fact that we had a vehicle to ourselves. So you planned well for a couple of intense photographers, because we could do as we liked without having to worry about the interests of a bunch of other people in the vehicle. By the way--this is a suggestion, not a complaint--we did not realize there would be a two-man team in each vehicle--a tracker as well as a guide--so that is worth your clients' knowing so they can take along enough cash for tips. It worked out all right for us, since we had enough cash. I am still curious, actually: are the guides in Botswana paid well? We were reasonably generous with tips, but I realized too late that I should have asked whether they make a decent living.
So, well done, Stephen!
Tom
