Nov 07 World Cup Draw and Airlines update
Hi to all on my 2010 list...

Below is some more informational tidbits  about airlines and the 2010 Cup...

Remember in about 2 weeks the draw takes in Durban ....and then its game on so to say with qualifying matches all over the globe starting to happen.

This is a lengthy e mail but  2010 soccer fever is getting to me so I want to pass it on

*******Qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa? has attracted a record total of 205 nations, all aiming to seal a berth at the showcase tournament from 11 June to 11 July 2010 in nine South African cities. *********

The preliminary draw of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, the first official FIFA event on African soil, is to feature some of Africa's finest talent.

The 2010 FIFA preliminary draw scheduled to take place in Durban on 25 November is set to see Africa's top artists perform to a global audience of millions in 170 countries, said Chief Executive Officer of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Local Organizing Committee, Danny Jordaan.

Speaking at the South African Football Association (SAFA) House Wednesday, Mr Jordaan said: "The exciting artist line-up includes the voice and spirit of the world-famous Lion King musical, Lebo M, along with one of the show's famous characters."

He further added that Freshly Ground, the home-grown group that features a truly African flavor which last year won a European Music Award, will also be featuring on the day.

The celebrated Soweto String Quartet, whose music is a fusion of the dance rhythms of Kwela, mbanqanga and swaying African Jazz will also be part of the event on the night.

Judith Sephuma, whose debut album "A cry, A smile, A Dance" was released in 2001 and garnered several awards, will also be part of the show line-up, he said.

"This is our finest opportunity to host a preliminary draw that will really capture the attention of the world. I know this event is going to blow the minds of the world.

"As South Africans, we need to hold together and be one single team. If we can do that, I know FIFA's first event on African soil will be a tremendous success. I have all the confidence that we will achieve that. I know it will be a great event," said the CEO.

A special stage of over 6km's of pine wood has also been constructed to showcase the performers on the night of the draw.

The specially constructed stage will also feature revolving platforms and a specially built arena for the orchestra.

KwaZulu-Natal will host 2010 matches and Confederations Cup matches in 2009, at the Moses Mabhida stadium.

Infrastructure preparations include the King Senzakhona International Airport, which will cost R6.8 billion.

The Moses Mabhida Stadium, is tipped to cost R2.2 billion.

Article 2

From 22 to 25 November, the eyes of the football world will be trained on Durban, the city that will host the first international 2010 FIFA World Cup? event in the shape of the preliminary draw at the International Convention Centre (ICC) on Sunday, 25 November 2007. The undoubted highlight will be the live broadcast of the draw, scheduled to start at 17.00h local time (16.00h CET) in the presence of South African President Thabo Mbeki, FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter, some of the best footballers of all time and representatives of more than 110 FIFA member associations.

The ceremony, which includes a section of typical African entertainment, will feature the draw to determine the pairings and groups for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa? preliminary competition. Exempt from the draw are South America, whose qualifiers are already underway in a home-and-away league format, and Oceania, whose preliminary competition began with the South Pacific Games in August 2007. The draw will commence with the Asian zone, followed by CONCACAF, Europe and finally Africa. The results can also be followed live on FIFA.com.

The draw will be conducted by FIFA General Secretary J鲴me Valcke, who will be able to count on such famous names as South African legends Kaizer Motaung, Jomo Sono and Lucas Radebe as well as Ali Daei (Iran), George Weah (Liberia), Abedi Pel頁yew (Ghana), Kasey Keller (USA) and Marcel Desailly (France) as his assistants. "The draw will give viewers all around the world an excellent taste of what lies in store for them in 2010," said Valcke. "170 territories have booked the TV feed for this event, which is a new FIFA World Cup record and yet more proof of the huge interest in South Africa 2010."

Dr Danny Jordaan, the Chief Executive of South Africa's Local Organizing Committee, is equally enthusiastic: "As the first official associated event of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the preliminary draw is of paramount importance to us at the organizing committee. We have a unique opportunity to demonstrate our ability to organize a world-class event to an expectant local, continental and international community. We've worked tirelessly for months on end to ensure all is in place for this special occasion and we are confident that all visitors to our country will revel in our uniquely African hospitality."

Meetings of various FIFA bodies and the local organizing committee will take place in South Africa's port city on the Indian Ocean before the football family comes together for the draw (see programme overleaf). On Saturday, 24 November, the Organizing Committee for the FIFA World Cup? will focus on the final preparations for the draw and the approval of the draw procedure for each of the geographic zones while also deliberating on the match schedule and ticketing issues.

The world premiere of Anant Singh's More Than Just A Game, a film that recounts the story of the Makana FA, an association founded by the inmates on Robben Island, will take place on 23 November.

By the by, I have been receiving e mails from folks wanting packages etc for the cup ie hotels, tickets, tours, etc....

DO NOT LET ANYONE MISLEAD YOU ..Their are no real hotel rates, airline rates, ticket prices nor ticket availability  at this time....some of this will start to emerge slowly in 2008....

Dont take it to much to heart ie if you wanted to arrive in say in Johannesburg we can get you to JO burg from Cape Town real easy.

If you live in Cape Town start learning Portuguese and Spanish because you are likely to see an influx of South American
soccer fans during the 2010 World Cup.

The South Africa Department of Transport has concluded deals with foreign airlines directing them to specific airports in the country so as to avoid overcrowding at Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport (Ortia).

The following entry points have been identified for airlines:

* Ortia ie  Johannesburg  for all airlines flying from Europe, the Middle East and the rest of Africa.

*Cape Town International Airport for all airlines flying from the Americas.

* Durban International Airport and the new King Shaka International Airport at La Mercy for airlines flying from Asia/Pacific and Australasia.

The South Africa Department of Transport believes this strategy will stimulate different markets, ease congestion at Ortia and create a Golden Triangle platform for beyond 2010.

It says Gauteng,s secondary and support airports such as Lanseria, Grand Central and Rand Airport will provide relief for Ortia(Johannesburg?s OR Tambo International Airport (Ortia). ) on private, business jet and general aviation.

Smaller airports such as Lanseria, Polokwane and Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport will also be used for inter-continental and regional operations, but customs and immigration services there may need upgrading.

To limit congestion, airlines will be allowed to drop off passengers at airports and then park elsewhere, like at air force bases,  while operational hours will be extended to accommodate an expected increase of unscheduled traffic.

SOUTH African airlines stand to benefit from a massive increase in capacity granted to Emirates Airlines in a bid to secure enough airline
seat capacity for the 2010 Fifa World Cup, says the Department of Transport (DoT).

DoT chief director of civil aviation, Anwar Abdul Gany, told the Portfolio Committee on Transport in Parliament, a new bilateral air services agreement negotiated last month between South Africa and the United Arab Emirates is conditional on South African carriers getting a bite of the cherry.

Emirates, the official carrier for the 2010 Fifa World Cup, within six months, has to conclude commercial agreements with  South African airlines for the packaging of the event.

DoT will review these and Emirates utilization of additional frequencies granted for 2007 and 2008, before granting them permission to up their frequencies in 2009 and 2010.

In total, Emirates stand to add 38 frequencies to South Africa between September 2007 and 2010.
It may increase its flights to Johannesburg by three frequencies on September 7, 2007,
adding seven flights to Cape Town and seven to Durban in January 2008.
Subject to a successful review, it may then add another seven flights to Cape Town and another seven to Durban in January 2009
and another seven services to Johannesburg in 2010.
Additional flights and/or future expansion is allowed as a safeguard to ensure enough capacity for the World Cup.

Gany said the arrangements were part of South Africa?s 2010 World Cup airlift strategy of securing as much
capacity as possible from around the world by tapping into major air traffic catchment areas.

Please keep in mind these general guidelines:

In 2007 - The World Cup 2010 ticketing policies will be  set in place, and the method of ticket allocation will be  developed

In
2008, the  World Cup 2010 ticket packages will be  set up, the ticket requirements will be  made known, and preferential ticket sales will begin.

In
2009  the General Public ticket sales will open

In 2010 -the World Cup Ticket distribution will take place.

I can design trips as you want them.
