Premier Classe

For the more selective travellers Shosholoza Meyl now offers Premier Classe accommodation. The Premier Classe is a unique way to experience the Africa of a bygone era. An era of gracious living and timeless elegance.

The Premier Classe coaches are connected to the Pretoria to Cape Town scheduled service. It leaves Pretoria and travels via Johannesburg everyThursday and returns from Cape Town every Tuesday.

The beautifully appointed sleeping compartments, with a choice of compartments accommodating 4 people,  2 persons , or a coupe accomodating one person, are available - both with a basin beneath a fold down table. Communal shower and toilet facilities are situated at the end of sleeping coaches.

The two sleeping coaches can accommodate up to 20 people, offering an ideal opportunity for small groups to charter the entire coach for special occasions. An air-conditioned lounge is geared for luxury, reminiscent of an indulgent past. You just relax in style and comfort.

In the dining car, wonderful meals, fine wines and excellent service are offered. The Premier Classe fare includes: champagne and snacks which you receive on arrival followed by a traditional 4 course lunch. You then relax in the lounge with afternoon high tea. Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure and prepare yourself for a finest South African 5 course dinner and excellent local wines.

At dinner, guests are kindly requested to dress smart casual.

Thereafter you may still enjoy the comfort of the lounge or proceed to relax in your compartment. Have a peaceful sleep and in the morning you will enjoy coffee in bed followed by a continental breakfast. During your journey, the friendly, efficient staff will attend to your every need on your relaxing overnight journey as the train glides towards its destination.

At the end of your journey, you will be spoilt with a special Premier Classe giveaway.

Schedule

The Shosholoza Meyl train with Premier Classe coaches departs from Cape Town on Tuesdays at 09:20, arrives in Johannesburg the following morning at 10:10 and reaches its final destination, Pretoria at 11:48. The return leg is on Thursdays - leaving Pretoria at 10:10 and Johannesburg at 12:30.

The train arrives in Cape Town the following afternoon at 14:15.

Premier Classe Pre-departure Information

Shosholoza Meyl offers its guests travelling from Cape Town The Blue Train VIP Lounge to meet at. The lounge is made available from 08:30. Guests travelling from Pretoria meet at The Blue Train VIP Lounge at 09:00 while those boarding in Johannesburg have a Premier Classe VIP area at the reservation office on the Rissik Street side for use from 11:15.

The dining cars have been branded BJ’s in order to identify them as such, both on the interior and exterior. The warm, friendly and vibrant colours seen at all BJ’s outlets countrywide have also been used on the coaches. The fast food "restaurant on wheels" is a first for South Africa. Passengers can enjoy a sit down meal in a air-conditioned dining car. Passengers can also enjoy their meals in the comfort of their compartment/coupe by making use of the corridor service. BJ’s menu’s can be faxed through on request.

Other Facilities
 Sleeper-4 (Previously known as 1st class) (4 & 2 bunks); Sleeper-6 (Previously known as 2nd class) (6 & 3 bunks) & Sitter Class (Open coach seating).
 Compartments and Coupes (half the size of compartments) are comfortable and compact.
 A wash basin and fold away table on Sleeper-4 and Sleeper-6 compartments.
 All Sleeper-4 coaches have communal toilet and shower facilities.
 All Sleeper-6 coaches have toilets, and newer generation coaches have communal shower facilities as well.
 Electric shaver points are provided in Sleeper-4 and Sleeper-6 compartments and coupes.
 Dining & catering cars on trains offer delicious meals & are stocked with a variety of S.A. wines & other beverages.
 Some trains only offer a tuck shop or a trolley service.
 Bedding and breakfast tickets are obtainable from ticket office and on the train
