Shosholoza Meyl:Premier Classe Johannesburg/Cape Town (return)

The Premier Classe was first introduced in 2001 with only four coaches accommodating 24 guests.

In 2006 it became a dedicated luxury train with eleven coaches accommodating 84 guests, travelling from Johannesburg to Cape Town (and back) twice a week.

The new Premier Classe train that was introduced in October 2007 accomodates 126 guests.

Johannesburg to Cape Town (return)

The Premier Classe departs from Johannesburg to Cape Town every Thursday and Sunday, returning from Cape Town to Johannesburg every Tuesday and Saturday.

The duration of the trip between Johannesburg and Cape Town is approximately 25 hours, stopping at some of South Africa’s prime tourist destinations. Please note that the stop-overs do not allow for excursions off the train.

The scheduled train programme is as follows:

Thursday / Sunday's Schedule from Johannesburg to Cape Town

14:00  Guests convene at the Premier Classe lounge at Johannesburg station for pre-departure tea and coffee
15:00  Depart from Johannesburg station with welcoming drinks and snacks served in the Lounge Car
19:10  Dinner is served in the Dining Car

Friday / Monday's Schedule

07:00  Early morning tea or coffee is served on request
09:00  Breakfast is served in the Dining Car
10:00  Morning tea is served in the Lounge Car or your room
12:30  Lunch is served in the Dining Car
15:30  High tea is served in the Lounge Car or in the comfort of your room
16:16  The train arrives in Cape Town

Tuesday / Saturday’s Schedule from Cape Town to Johannesburg

08:00  Guests convene at the Premier Classe lounge at Cape Town station for pre-departure tea and coffee
09:05  Depart from Cape Town station with welcoming drinks and snacks served in the Lounge Car
12:30  Lunch is served in the Dining Car
15:30  High tea is served in the Lounge Car or in the comfort of your room
19:10  Dinner is served in the Dining Car

Wednesday / Sunday's Schedule

07:00  Early morning tea or coffee is served on request
09:00  Breakfast is served in the Dining Car
10:00  Morning tea is served in the Lounge Car or your room

Payment Methods

Cash

Payment by cash when tickets are issued.
(Customers should remember to pay for tickets within the time limit that is given to them by the sales consultants.)

Bank deposits

     (When a deposit is made into the bank account, a copy of the deposit slip must be faxed to the office or sales consultant responsible for the issuing of your tickets to secure your reservation.)

 

Credit Cards

Credit Card payments are accepted telephonically, provided the credit card number, expiry date, type of card, name of cardholder, ID or passport number, date of birth, billing address and written authorisation is received.


This document must be completed and faxed through to the office or sales agent responsible for the issuing of your tickets to secure your reservation.

When collecting tickets paid by credit card, the card holder must report with a positive identification document or valid passport, to sign the credit card slip.

 

Given on request

Reservation and cancellation procedure

Once a ticket is purchased, a reservation may be changed for an earlier or later date without penalty, provided such change is made 60 days prior to the date of travel.

Cancellations with less than 60 days notice attract a 100% cancellation fee.

A provisional reservation only becomes guaranteed once full payment has been received and the Premier Classe has issued the ticket.

The onus rests with the agent/ operator and/ or client to timeously release all unused rooms to avoid cancellation penalties.
