Mozambique Escapes 6N

Mozambique Escapes Day 1: Johannesburg Maputo. We leave the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg early in the morning for our coach journey to Mozambiques capital Maputo.After border formalities it is a short journey to this vibrant capital City. Heavely influenced by Portuguese colonialism with a mix of African culture, this city is littered with cafés, Bars, Restaurants and market shopping. The city was originally named Lourenco Marques after the Portuguese trader who first explored the area in 1544. We have the rest of the day to explore surrounding and this evening we experience Maputo’s night life. Day 2: Maputo Bay, Salagamga, Maputo Elephant reserve. Today we make our way to our beach paradise. En route we pass through Salamanga and enter into Maputo Elephant Reserve. Before 11975 and the civil war this reserve teemed wild life including many white rhino. Unfortunately the number of animals dwindled during the war but are now making a comeback. We can see elephant as well as hippo, crocodile, red duiker, vervet and samango monkeys and a myriad of bird life. We arrive at our beach haven in the late afternoon. Day 3 – 5: Ponta Mamoli. The next three days are spent in and around this private, secluded and un-spoilt beach. We can enjoy the water in many ways. Swimming, diving, snorkeling, surfing and fishing are all catered for here. The coral is untouched and in excellent condition, encouraging huge schools of fish. Whales and dolphins are also spotted regularly. Lake canoeing trips, horse trails and hiking trails are also available away from the beach. You can also simply relax by the swimming pool and bar with breathtaking views of the ocean in full view. Day 6 – 7: Maputo, Johannesburg. Catch an early morning swim before making our way back to Maputo to overnight once again. This is time for any last minute shopping or sea food indulging before we travel back to Johannesburg the following morning.
