Drakensberg SA9 Code AT
This journey offers breathtaking sights along the highest mountains of the Drakensberg, which flank the small mountain kingdom of Lesotho. As you explore the interior of Kwa-zulu Natal en route to the Drakensberg, you will pass though some charming and very hospitable towns that have historic significance to the country.
Day 1 - Durban to Drakensberg (280 km)
Either drive from Durban to Pietermaritzburg on the highway, or you may choose the more scenic but also more time-consuming route via Krantakloof Nature Reserve, Botha's Hill and Cato Ridge. The route continues into Howick. You may want to stop at the small but beautiful Nature Reserve where the Umgeni River falls ninety-five metres at Howick Falls. The Drakensberg route starts from Lidgetto and ends in the Underberg. Spend the next two nights in the Drakensberg.
Day 2 - Drakensberg
You can drive to the beautiful Sani pass, the only route east to Lesotho. If relaxing is all you have on mind, the Drakensberg has the perfect setting with its spectacular lush green scenery, stunning mountains and fresh country air. For the more active, there are plenty of things to do, including nature walks, hiking trails, swimming, trout fishing, horse riding, golf and other sporting facilities. You will spend the night at the same resort as in Day 1.
Day 3 - Drakensberg to Johannesburg
Your drive to Johannesburg takes approximately four hours, where your journey ends.
