Accommodation at Kapama Private Game Reserve; whether your choice is for a thatched double chalet, or luxury canvas tent in the trees, you the discerning traveller, will find the very best in game lodge experiences. Kapama Lodge can accommodate up to 40 guests in 20 luxurious, air-conditioned, thatched double chalets. All chalets overlook a lake, offering the discerning traveller the very best of African game lodge experience.
Kapama provides an authentic, intimate safari experience in the African bush, whilst retaining all the luxuries and comforts of en-suite facilities and home-from-home lodging. Fly over the spectacular escarpment where the Highveld grasslands plunge 1000m or motor through a series of breathtaking mountain passes to the select wildlife destination in the African bush, Kapama Private Game Reserve. Twelve thousand hectares of undisturbed bushveld form the backdrop for the game reserve where a multitude of animal, plant and birdlife reveals the essence of the African continent.

Guests are accommodated in twenty luxurious, air-conditioned, en-suite thatched chalets, decorated to reflect Africa's rich textures, which are set in indigenous gardens. Visitors will enjoy the relaxed tranquillity of the bush.

To appreciate fully the vast range of animal species, including the Big Five, as well as abundant bird species that Kapama Private Game Reserve has to offer, guided tours or accompanied walking trails can be taken daily.

Kapama Private Game Reserve is situated in the Limpopo Province and was proclaimed a private nature reserve in December 1993. Covering approximately 13 000 hectares of prime big game territory, Kapama Private Game Reserve has succeeded in combining the wilderness of the bush with the comforts of five-star hospitality and facilities.

The reserve supports a wide variety of game including elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros, and large populations of giraffe, impala, blue wildebeest and kudu. Predators include lion, leopard, cheetah, spotted hyena and many smaller species.

Kapama has introduce a unique Elephant Back Safari as an additional activity for guests. This dreamlike adventure offers magical moments as well as the opportunity to come into close contact with wildlife.

The reserve enjoys panoramic views of the nearby Drakensberg mountain range, is only 40 km from the Kruger National Park and is central to most of the scenic areas of Mpumalanga and Limpopo Province.

Eastgate Airport lies just outside the reserve with a private entrance into Kapama Private Game Reserve.

Activities
Elephant Back Safaris
Guests are seated on comfortable canvas-covered saddles positioned behind an experienced elephant handler. From this vantage point, they are able to view game from close proximity as the elephants move silently and in a single file through the bush.
The unique and memorable experience of interacting with Africa's gentle giants will be savoured long after guests alight from the patiently kneeling elephants.

Game Drives
A game drive in an open safari vehicle offers guests the opportunity to see the Big Five and a large variety of smaller wildlife. Guest's set out in the early morning and evening accompanied by highly skilled game rangers, who provide interesting information and anecdotes about the inhabitants of the bush.

Clay Pigeon Shooting
Kapama has two clay pigeon machines and one rabbit rolling machine. Clay Pigeon Shooting is arranged on request as it is charged as an extra.

Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre
The Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre is about an hour's drive from Kapama Lodge through the bush. The stay at Kapama Private Game Reserve includes a visit to the centre and this is arranged between the guests and the rangers.

Bush walks
Bush walks are arranged by the rangers and include informative talks about the grasses, trees, wild flowers and animals.

Picnics and bush braais (barbeques)
Picnics and bush braais are very informal and highly enjoyable. These can be arranged at various spots around the reserve.

Bird watching
The bird hide is built on the banks of a large dam. Guests have the opportunity to view a large variety of water birds as well as animals coming down to drink.

Boat trips
Birding and sundowner cruises for up to six people at a time are offered. There is also a chance of viewing crocodile and hippo at close range.

Optional extra activities whilst at Kapama Private Game Reserve includes a visit to Nyani Tribal Village, Traditional dancing, White-water rafting, Microlight trips, Hot-air balloon trips, Helicopter flips, buying African curios at the Strijdom Tunnel, Golf, Panorama mountain tours and Quad bikes.

How to get there
Take either the N12 or the N4 from Johannesburg to Witbank and Middelburg. Turn onto the R540 towards Belfast, Dullstroom and Lydenburg.
From Lydenburg proceed on the R36 to Orighstad, through the Strydom Tunnel to Hoedspruit.
At Hoedspruit, take the R40 to Klaserie.

For Kapama Lodge and Nyala House, continue on the R40 and turn left at the Eastgate Airport turn-off and continue for 15 km. Turn right at the Guernsey turn-off and continue on the gravel road for another 10 km. The Kapama Lodge entrance will be on your left-hand side.

For Camp Jabulani and Buffalo Camp, continue on the R40 until you reach the entrance on your left-hand
