DAY 1| ARRIVAL IN TANZANIA/MARENGU HOTEL
Arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport. You’ll be met and transferred to the Marengu Hotel to meet your guides and porters. It feels as though Hemingway might stroll through the lobby at any moment, as the small hotel transports you back to the 1920s. Nestled at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Marengu Hotel adds charm and hospitality to beautiful grounds and gardens in its unique setting. The stone cottages feature two ensuite rooms that share a living area. The dining room is large and airy, serving the hearty, homestyle food you’ll need for the days ahead. Overnight at the Marengu Hotel. [B,D]
DAY 2 | BEGIN KILIMANJARO CLIMB/MACHAMBE HUTS: 3,000 METERS
Breakfast under your belt, get ready to attack the mountain. After the drive to the Machame park entrance, you'll start your climb through cultivated farms heading to the forest. This will be a full day of climbing, before you retire to your huts. These are basic, but large huts, with rooms of bare wood to place your sleeping equipment. Toilets are longdrop-style outside, and there is water for washing, although no showers. Meals will provide those solid, high-energy carbohydrates you'll need over the next few days, including pastas and stews. Overnight at the Machame Huts at 3,000 meters. [B,L,D]
DAY 3 | CONTINUE CLIMB/SHIRA HUTS: 3,800 METERS
Climbing across valleys and ridges, you’ll slowly head upwards to the moorlands of the Shira plateau. Your overnight stop is at the Shira Huts at 3,800 meters. [B,L,D]
DAY 4 | WALKING & HIKING TO ACCLIMATIZE/SHIRA HUTS: 3,800 METERS
Spend a day at the Shira Huts acclimatizing to the altitude with walks and hikes in the area. This is a day for picture taking. Overnight at Shira Huts. [B,L,D]
DAY 5 | PREPARING FOR THE SUMMIT/BARRANCO HUTS: 3,900 METERS
Heading upwards and over towards the Barranco Huts today, a long hike of five-six hours but only gaining 100 meters overall. Beautiful views and more acclimatization help prepare you for the final push to the summit. Overnight at Barranco Huts. [B,L,D]
DAY 6 | CONTINUE TOWARD SUMMIT/LAVA TOWER HUT: 4,600 METERS
From Barranco you head upwards to the new Lava Tower Hut at 4,600 meters. A hard 4-6 hour climb, this is the last section before the summit push. Overnight at the Lava Tower Huts. [B,L,D]
DAY 7 | SUNRISE AT THE SUMMIT!/HOROMBU HUT
Waking up extra early will be worth it. Start out in the wee dark hours of the morning to begin your summit push. The goal is to arrive at the summit at dawn: sunrise at this vantage point is breathtaking. But we won't dally; the altitude takes its toll very quickly! Descend down on the Marengu route to Horombo Hut at 4,703 meters for a well-deserved rest and meal. Overnight at Horombo Hut. [B,L,D]
DAY 8 | DESCENDING DOWN THE MOUNTAIN/MARENGU HOTEL
Down goes a bit more quickly. Once you've hit the base, you'll be transported back to the comfort of the Marengu Hotel for dinner, a hot shower, and a well- earned comfortable night's sleep! Overnight at Marengu Hotel. [B,L,D]
DAY 9 | RELAX AND DEPART FROM TANZANIA
You've done it, now settle in for the day and relax. The Marengu Hotel's grounds provide the restful space for a last look at where you've been from safe, comfortable garden surroundings. Then transfer to the Kilimanjaro Airport for your flight home.Therse are other Interesting add on packages at the Coast if you want to extend your stay[B,L]
