SOUTHERN KRUGER & SWAZILAND |
| SOUTHERN KRUGER & SWAZILAND | Southern Kruger - Malalotja Nature Reserve: Skukuza, Pretoriuskop, Berg en Dal via Barbeton and Saddleback Pass to Malalotja Nature Reserve in Swaziland(Code CBR)
Minimum length: 2 days 3 nights, can be longer depending on level of intensity of trip and detail of coverage.
This tour offers the diverse, bushveld birding of southern Kruger as described in the above itinerary . En route to Swaziland and the Malalotja Nature Reserve from southern Kruger, we pass on quiet mountain roads through the enchanting Barbeton hills, which contain some of the oldest geology in the world.
The mountainous areas contain large tracts of forest and provide similar forest and highveld grassland birding as described in the above itinerary. Malalotja encompasses a wide range of habitats stretching from highveld grassland to bushveld.
Due to large variety of habitats, the reserve hosts a large variety of bird species. Excellent views of the beautiful, endangered Blue Swallow can be had here during summer months and the reserve is an excellent place to look for Stanley's Bustard and Blackwinged Plover. Visitors are free to walk freely in Malalotja and this tour would be of particular interest to the birder keen to bird and explore some spectacular scenery on foot.
