Since I receive so many questions from prospective South  Africa Safari travellers  regarding the choices for a South Africa  Safari, I have created a  category that   will answer many questions regarding a Africa Safari and generally applies equaelly to South Africa Safaris, Botswana Safaris, Namibia Safari  and  or Zambia Safaris.

 About Safaris

 Cost of a South Africa Safari:

Your budget will dictate what your South Africa Safari  experience  will be like. South Africa has  a well developed Safari infrastructure, with packages that meet all  budgets.

Generally , the cost of  a South Africa Safari will  depend on the amount of nights  you spend in a area,ie in  a  private lodge,or outside the gates of the park,and   the type of lodging you choose  in that area.

In most cases, all private lodges Safaris, except for the self drive safaris, will  include 2 x game drives and Full Board ie all meals, most drinks and mornng and afternoon tea,and sunset drinks for the evening game drive.

A group escorted Safari usually includes the lodging, 1x long game drive per day, some meals,and a  guide.

A South Africa Safari is the most requested   add on to any South Africa Holiday  Tour package.

When you compare all the options available for a  South Africa Safari,  the most famous and biggest of all the  South Africa Safari parks is the Kruger National Park

Kruger National Park Safari

There  are 3 ways to experience a Kruger National Park  Safari.

Escorted Kruger National  Park Safari Tour :

This version of  a  South  Africa Safari has  a set departure day  of the week, with a   set schedule, with  a set rate, and is a open to anyone  group trip.They usually operate round trip from Johannesburg, stay outside the gates of Kruger  Park, and traverse the public section  roads of the  park.

Self drive Kruger National Park Safaris:

This is a version of the  Safari experience that I personally like to do myself, and I have been designing Safari tours  for my clients where we combine a self drive with  a  private lodge Safari.

 It covers  more eco systems, the park camps are located right thoughout the  park, and most offer lots of services like Safari bush  dinners, walking Safaris, game drives, they have restaurants or you can  reserve a  self catering bungalow. 

You are not constrained  by schedule or time, as we design for what  you  want to do.Our Self drive Kruger National Park Safaris are all custom designed  to meet your needs,and  budget.

A alternative to this self drive is where we  hire a  local guide who will drive  you around  the  park,while still staying in the park rest  camps.

Private Lodges.

The  vast majority of my clients  stay in the private lodges of the Kruger National  Park, generally for a 2N Safari stay.

These  Safaris  border the Greater Kruger National Park, and generally such areas  for example as the  Sabi Sands  game  reserve, is recognized as containing the best game viewing in the Kruger National Park.

 These are fencless areas, where the wildlife roams freely between the different sectors of the Park.

If Leopards on high  on your  list see, then the Sabi Sands game reserve   is one of the best places to  spot them.

Timbivati Private Reserves.

In these private parks,you can go off road  to view the animals,which you cannot do a  escorted  tour, which is an advantage for closer and better game viewing.

The camps are small and intimate, and you have game guides that know the eco systems,the wild life and terrain.

I design a  South Africa Safari package as part of a greater South Africa, or Southern Africa tour.

There are no real safari packages, as these are made up acording to the lodge you want to go to, your budget, time you have to travel etc.
