CAPE TOWN & GARDEN ROUTE GOLF TOUR
(SELF-DRIVE)
9 DAYS / 8 NIGHTS
Cape Town and the Garden Route, which stretches along the southern coast,
are easily combined to offer some of the countries best golf courses and
scenic touring. This self-drive program offers the golfer the choice of
deluxe or superior accommodation and a variety of championship and holiday
golf courses.

DAY
1 - 3 CAPE TOWN
Arrive at Cape Town International Airport and transfer to your hotel.
You will spend three nights in Cape Town on a bed and breakfast basis.
Cape Town is home to a number of world-class golf courses; you will play
two of them and also enjoy high quality sightseeing during your stay.
Clovelly Country Club in the southern Peninsula is best combined with
a tour to Cape Point in the Cape Peninsula National Park and a visit to
the penguins at Boulders beach.
Spier Country Club is a brand new course designed to international standards
and set alongside vineyards at Spier in the Winelands region. After 18
holes you can enjoy a memorable lunch at one of the estate's restaurants
or embark immediately on a tour of the Stellenbosch winelands.
Your free time in the "Mother City" can be filled in numerous
ways - relax on one of the many beautiful beaches, join a ferry tour to
the infamous Robben Island - South Africa's Alcatraz is best known as
the place where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for almost two decades or
ascend Table Mountain (on foot or by cable car - weather permitting).
DAY 4 - 6 GEORGE / GARDEN ROUTE
Depart Cape Town and drive to George on the Garden Route (approximately
450km on well-maintained, tarred roads).
Spend three nights in George on a bed and breakfast basis and play three
rounds of golf during your stay. Fancourt Hotel and Country Club will
host the golfer on the deluxe tour whilst a superior guest house or hotel
will provide a comfortable base to the golfer on the standard tour.
The two 18-hole, Gary Player-designed championship parkland golf courses
at Fancourt - with world-class conditioning - meet the exacting requirements
of champions as well as the needs of the improving golfer. These two courses,
the Montagu and the Outeniqua, are only available for the golfer residing
at Fancourt.
However a third course - The Links - opened in September 2000 has added
a dramatically different dimension to the estate's existing world-class
golfing facilities and is open to the golfer not staying at the estate.
George Golf Course consists of beautifully green and well-maintained Outeniqua
kweek fairways and bent grass greens. There are no water hazards on the
course but it has numerous bunkers and deep rough.

The
18-hole Mediterranean-style Sparrebosch Golf Complex, located on the top
of the Knysna Heads provides another memorable golfing experience with
panoramic views of the Indian Ocean. Knysna itself is a vibrant town and
lies on an estuary, offering the visitor many attractions including boat
cruises, oyster tasting and plenty of local art and culture in its flea
markets and galleries.
Your leisure time will readily fill up in this region of infinite diversity
and contrast, from golden beaches, rocky shorelines, and mysterious indigenous
forests to breathtaking mountains. The year-round mild climate provides
numerous opportunities for leisure activities such as watersports, hiking,
whale watching (seasonal) and adventure sports.
DAY 7 - 8 PLETTENBERG BAY / GARDEN ROUTE
Travel along the heart of the coastal Garden Route via Wilderness and
Knysna to Plettenberg Bay where you will spend two nights on a bed and
breakfast basis.
Enjoy a round of golf at Plettenberg Bay Golf Club. A scenic parkland
course situated in a proclaimed nature reserve sports newly designed greens
surrounds and bunkers to USGA specifications. The enlarged, gently sloped
bent grass greens, designed by Rob O'Friell, now have strategically placed
bunkers and four new water features.
Leisure time in Plettenberg Bay will most likely include some hours on
its stunning beaches or for the more adventurous a hike in the Robberg
Peninsula Nature Reserve or scenic flight over the bay to spot the resident
dolphins and whales (in season only).
DAY 9 PORT ELIZABETH
Continue along the remainder of the Garden Route through the Tsitsikamma
Forests to Port Elizabeth (approximately 250km) superbly set on the shores
of Algoa Bay. Drop off your rental car and board a flight onwards.
