4.CONTRASTS AND THE STRUGGLE
This tour of the "Frontiers and Pioneers "
route visits the town of Alice,home of
the University of Fort Hare and Lovedale
College.These esteemed places of learning
educated many of our leaders of today
including former President Nelson Mandela.
We visit the de Beers Centenary Art Gallery
with its breathtaking collection of African
art.
Bisho/King William ’s Town is the capital of
the Eastern Cape province today,but its
fascinating history stretches back early
into the last century.We tour this town and
visit the Amathole Museum famous for its
natural history and historic displays.It is
also the last resting place of "Huberta " the
Hippopotamus who became world famous
for her wanderings early this century.
5.SETTLER &WILDLIFE ROUTE
The modern history of this area was
infl uenced by the proud Xhosa nation
and the settling English &German people
meeting mostly in peace and sometimes in
confl ict.Today the people of this area live
and work happily side by side.This tour
encompasses the history and culture of an
area of great natural beauty,where forts

6.THE WILDLIFE EXPERIENCE
Join us to spend a night in the superb
Double drift Game Reserve at the
picturesque Mvubu lodge on the banks of
the Great Fish River.Here accompanied by
a ranger,you will experience wildlife close
at hand.Game walks and bird watching day
and night to game drives in an open vehicle
(spotlights are used at night to pick up the

7.THE MADIBA EXPLORER
We leave East London or King William ’s
Town for Umtata to visit the Nelson Mandela
Museum where you will experience the
story of Nelson Mandela told in his own
words,based on his book,"Long Walk to
Freedom ".
On the way we will see Qunu where Madiba
grew up and his residence.With time
permitting,we will also visit Mvezo where
Madiba was born.
