Cape Town to Cedarberg, South Africa. Mountain hike in the Cedarberg Mountains to Wolfberg Cracks. Jump off cliff faces into Rock Pools. [LD]
Day 2
Cedarberg to Augrabies Falls, South Africa. “Augrabies with prolific birdlife, spectacular moonlike scenery, various small antelope and other wild animals, including a population of Black Rhino, is best known for the gorge into which the Orange River plummets, supposedly onto a fortune of diamonds. There are many hiking trails and short drives – generally a great place to relax.” [BLD]
Day 3
Augrabies Falls, South Africa. Opportunity to go white-water rafting. Raft the exciting and pristine 8km stretch of the Garieb, finishing only 300 metres above the main falls. Grade 2/3 and 4 grade rapids. [BLD]
Day 4
Augrabies to Kalahari Gemsbok National Park, South Africa. Game drives during afternoon in Kalahari Gemsbok National Park. “One of the largest and greatest reserves in Southern Africa. A pristine land of sand and scattered trees, considered by many as the best place to see Cheetah and Leopard. It is also home to the magnificent black-maned Kalahari Lions. Other animals include numerous Bat-eared Foxes, Springbok and Wildebeest, two types of Hyena, Jackals, Honey Badgers and of course the beautiful gemsbok with its warrior-like markings, which lent its name to the park. It is one of the best places in Africa to see birds of prey, and is great for landscape photography.” This park has lots to offer, remote campsites, floodlit waterholes (lots of action here) and the opportunity to cross-beautiful red desert dunes. [BLD]
Day 5
Kalahari Gemsbok National Park, South Africa. Game drives in the park. Camp again in the park. [BLD]
Day 6
Kalahari Gemsbok National Park to Hardop Dam. Depart from here late morning (after game drive) so that we reach Hardop Dam outside of Mariental in the late afternoon. Beautifully set at the largest dam in Namibia, the Hardop Dam, which is enclosed by a game park. Both wildlife and watersport enthusiasts will find ample scope here. [BLD]
Day 7
Sossusvlei, Namibia. Moving towards the coast we make our way to Sesriem, the gateway to the world’s highest sand dunes at Sossusvlei. [BLD]
Day 8
Sesriem and Sossusvlei, Namibia. We visit the world’s highest sand dunes at Sossusvlei. At sunrise these red sand dunes, which can reach heights of over 300m, are absolutely spectacular and provide for a fantastic photo opportunity. With luck, there may even be water in the vlei (lake). [BLD]
Day 9
Fish River Canyon and Hobas, Namibia. After a long drive we arrive at the Fish River Canyon and set up camp at Hobas. For those interested, a hike down the canyon offers a challenge – the views and scenery are magnificent. Later we take in another perfect African sunset with a braai (BBQ) on the Canyons edge. [BLD]
Day 10
The Orange River, Namibia. We leave Hobas mid-morning for our camp on the banks of the Orange River, which makes up the South African – Namibian boundary. Here you can relax in the water that has supplied the region with its famous diamonds. [BLD]
Day 11
Canoeing on the Orange River, Namibia. The only traveling today is done in a canoe. Put your feet up and relax as the currents take you downstream ? mind the rapids though! [BLD]
Day 12
West Coast of South Africa, Namaqualand Flowers/Cape Town, South Africa. We cross the border into South Africa and make our way down the coast. If you are traveling in spring you will see the spectacular carpets of wildflowers of the famous Namaqualand region. In the late afternoon we drive through the mountains taking us to our final destination, Cape Town. [BLD]
