Cape to Cape (Hinterland) This has set departures ...contact us for rates and space.
This trip starts and ends in Cape Town. It takes you off the beaten track and allows you time to take in all the natural wonders, the wild African animals and the ancient cultures whilst still including ample opportunity for adventurous activities such as plenty of mountain biking, some good walks, as well as river rafting, canoeing and other activities, along the way.
Each client is provided with their own mountain bike for the duration of the trip, which is designed for the explorative traveller more so than the cycle fanatics, however both are welcome!
All our adventures are of the full participation variety, this means that you will be expected to help with cooking and cleaning and general campsite duties (and to get muddy should our vehicle get bogged down along the way). The rewards of taking the rough way are a sense of really being close to nature, a chance to get close up and personal with Africa’s wildlife, to have time for exploration and to meet local people and learn about their cultures.
Cederberg: Day 1
After leaving the Mother City we drive though the wine lands of old and head for the shaggy sandstone mountains of the Cederberg arriving at our campsite around noon. We have the afternoon to explore our surroundings and take a trip to some of the most awesome Bushmen paintings to be found. The Cederberg is not only a good place to view the stars. Geographically, it gives us tangible representations as to how the earth arrived at its present topography. It is here where you will be introduced to your mountain bikes!
Goegab Nature Reserve: Day 2
This morning we have time to take a cycle over some of the Cederberg mountain roads with is breathtaking surrounds, ending with lunch near a cool river where there is time to take a quick dip before making our way to the town of Springbok, arriving late afternoon.
Augrabies Falls: Day 3
This morning we enter the Goegab Nature Reserve just after breakfast and have time for a two-hour mountain biking session. Alternatively spend some time taking a walk or checking out the botanical gardens, home to some ingeniously adapted flora, many endemic to this area. This area is exceptional beautiful in spring when a carpet of daisies covers the landscape. After an early lunch we make our way to Augrabies Falls arriving late afternoon in time to see the falls at sunset.
Augrabies Falls/Upington: Day 4
This morning we have at leisure to cycle or take a walk and enjoy the natural splendour of the waterfall and the surrounding area. This is a great venue for bird watching enthusiasts, you may want to take a swim or just relax with a book under the shady trees. After lunch we make our way to the town of Upington where we will stop to restock before heading to our camp just outside of town where we will overnight.
Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (Kalahari National Park): Day 5– Day 7 We leave our camp in the town of Upington after breakfast and make our way to the sands of the Kalahari where we will enter the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. This National Park, which stretches across the border into Botswana, is an excellent venue for Big Cat sightings and also hosts many other equally interesting members of the African animal kingdom. We spend a total of 3 nights in the park allowing us enough time go on plenty of game drives, not only to get the perfect photo, but also to watch the behavior of these fine creatures.
Quiver Tree Forest: Day 8
After a final morning game drive we leave the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and cross the border into Namibia arriving late afternoon at our camp. There is time to take a walk or cycle around the nearby Quiver Tree Forest.
Fish River Canyon: Day 9
This morning we have the opportunity to visit the Giants Playground, so named due to the strange rock formations reminiscent of children’s building blocks. This is also a good opportunity for a morning cycle before making our way to the breathtaking Fish River Canyon, arriving in the early afternoon. Once we have reached our campsite we have an hour or two to have a swim and relax under the shade of ebony trees before heading for the Canyon viewpoint for sundowners. An evening cycle along the edge of the canyon is also a good option.
Orange River: Day 10 –11<br> A short drive with much to see and explore along the way, gets us back to South Africa where we will spend two nights on the banks of the mighty Orange River. The second day brings us the opportunity to take off down the river on a full or half-day optional excursion, truly a peaceful experience. Alternatively spend the day at leisure, go for a cycle or take a walk in these peaceful surrounds.
Hondeklipbaai: Day 12
Today we head back to the Atlantic Ocean via little dirt roads that lead us to the quaint little fishing village of Hondeklipbaai. The route taken is ideal for a good session on the mountain bikes for those in need of some action.
Langebaan: Day 13
Leaving the sleepy village of Hondeklipbaai we cross through some of the finest wild flower area in South Africa (in the spring time) and head south to the coastal town of Langebaan and the relatively calm waters of its lagoon. Tonight will be our last night together so we’ll mark the occasion by enjoying local cuisine and reminiscing over the last 2 weeks!
