| Day 1 |
Activities: mountain biking / pony rides
In the morning you will be picked up by B@B vehicle with mountain Bikes in tow and head for the KZN Drakensberg. We overnight at the Sani Pass Hotel, a quaint hotel nestled into the beautiful Sani valley.
The day is spent sightseeing and enjoying the scenery while driving/cycling (depending on your fitness level) to one of the highest points in Southern Africa and a world heritage site (Sani Pass). The cycle itself is 12 km long and takes about 2 hours 30 minutes to ascend. It is the 3rd highest road pass in the world.
Guests are encouraged to take their time and there is a 4*4 vehicle on hand at all times. For non-cyclists, the pass presents a fantastic trekking challenge.
After a healthy lunch at the Sani Top Chalets, home to South Africa's highest pub, we have the option of a ride along the escarpment on Basothu Ponies.
This will take most of the afternoon as it's worth stopping periodically to take in the views.
That night we enjoy a traditional South African braai (included) around an open fire and swap stories of our adventures in the mountains. |
| Day 2 |
Activities: mountain biking, 4x4 driving
The views as we travel along the cliffs overlooking KZN are spectacular. We commence our decent down Sani Pass on foot or by Mountain bike at about 12:00pm. Once again, those who wish to join the 4*4 backup crew are are welcome to do so.
Once we reach the bottom of the pass we pack up our equipment and head East for the Wide open spaces of Zululand
We arrive at the world heritage site of St lucia early in the evening and settle in. |

Day 3 |
|
Activities: kayaking/river Cruise
The next morning after breakfast we head for the St Lucia Estuary, a world heritage site. During the morning we take to kayaks and explore Catalina bay on the Estuary system.
Get up close and personal with a family of hippos and learn about the unique St Lucia eco-system. Options include a famous mud bath! Great fun. During the afternoon we take an afternoon cruise on St Lucia estuary, where a range of wildlife including hippos and crocs and many bird species are common.
During the early evening we head for the nearby Game Reserve at Hluhluwe and settle in for the evening. |
| Day 4 |
Activities: safari/night drive
After breakfast. our destination is the Hluhluwe-Umfolozi National Park. The Park covers 52 000 acres of South Africa's finest bushland and is world renowned for its natural diversity and population of Rhino and other 'big 5' species. Here you will experience the African bush as it once was.
On arrival, we check into 'Hilltop camp', situated at the top of a hill, with panoramic views of the reserve. We make our way out into the bush for our first game drive in search of the various game species that abound in this area.
Your guide is highly experienced and has a thorough knowledge of the animal and bird species in the area. We enjoy a packed lunch at one of the 'hides' in the reserve.
After a lovely buffet dinner we relax and enjoy the sounds of the bush around the camp fire. |
Day 5
|
Activities: cultural experience.
We leave Hluhuwe after breakfast and make for the historic town of Eshowe on our way back to Durban. We visit the old colonial era fort and enjoy the guided historic tour.
After that we head through to Shakaland, South Africa's premier cultural experience. Here we take in a cultural tour and an awesome display of dancing as well as enjoy the fantastic buffet lunch.
Options include a visit to the Sangoma or faith-healer. At the end of the evening relax around the fire and swap adventure stories.
We make our way back to Durban and arrive at early evening. |
