This village is situated at Qunu Administrative Area on the N2, about 7km from Nelson Mandela's residence in Qunu and is easily accessible from the N2. This centre comprises of the following: Guest Rondavels, Craft Centre, Traditional food preparation area, Conference Centre and Cultural Performances (per arrangement).
Come and enjoy an insight into the traditions and customs of the Xhosa People of this region as they have rondavels (round huts), furnished with themes of Xhosa culture. Some of what you can see are the customs of Ibhoma (Boy's initiation), Intonjane (girl’s initiation), Insangoma (witch doctor) who still practices in specially built rondavels. Jonopo also offers tourists a chance to sleep in traditional Xhosa bungalows and backpacker dormitory style bunks.
The craft centre is based on the concept where the community is involved in generating a source of income to sustain their lively-hood. All garments and traditional wares are handmade which comprises of Traditional Garments, beadwork, grass wares, basketry and pottery. Some of the traditional wares include: Vula Kabini: mens tasselled beaded necklace usually bought by a girlfriend as a gift Uncumo: a longer necklace meaning 'smile'
Umqhuboka: it is a gift from a boyfriend.
