Eating out in Cape Town
Cape Town - voted the number one city in the world for eating out - leaving even London and Paris behind!!

Much has been said by famous and less famous people about the importance of good food. I quote:

Man is what he eats/ ludwig feuerbach

Praise is the best diet for us, after all/sidney smith

Here is a partial list....there are others
----------------------------------------------------------
Eating out is great pleasure when you get what you expect and then some more!
----------------------------------------------------------

Except for delicious food, innovative dishes and sophisticated, extraordinary South African wine, the top 100 restaurants in South Africa are all offering something special. Whether it is a spectacular view, a beautiful garden setting, the old charm of a historic building, efficient still relaxed service with a smile, and even if you're not one, you are being treated as a VIP. The right lighting can make all the difference to a restaurant and so can the involvement of a manager who is in touch with what is happening on the floor. And what about music, not to loud, not to distant and must go with the theme of the place. Attention to details is something else that will please and surprise.

When all these things fall into place, it will be a good meal, perhaps something to be remembered for a long time, a mouthwatering memory to be told to friends.

Just listen to these comments by the judges of top 100 restaurants:

V&A Waterfront
V&A WaterfrontCape Town. One.Waterfront. Expect innovation - spiked with porcupine quills. Executive chef Bruce Robertson came to the kitchen from an advertising agency: hence his idiosyncratic, often unlikely combinations of ingredients and eye-catching presentation. His adventurous style explores and puts together roots of South Africa's cuisine. Like grilled crayfish tail, lightly dusted with Cape Malay spices and served with a breyani rice fritter, banana tortellini and almond cream.

There is no love sincerer than the love of food/george bernhard shaw

Franschhoek. Le Quartier Francais. Take your taste buds on a flavour odyssey. When booking on this conservatory-style gem, request executive chef Margot Janse's tasting menu. It's an epicurean treat of superbly judged flavours, textures and portions size confirming Margot's international reputation. She was voted top chef 2004 by Wine Magazine. How about: plump Sahldanah Bay mussels in ambrosial spiced miso broth with spring onions and coriander.
5 star food, 5 star service, 5 star value.

Cooking is about not cheating yourself of pleasure/nigel slater

Darling. Trinity Guest Lodge and Restaurant. Tucked away in the sleepy little town is a converted Victorian home, surrounded by lavender. Soft colours, aromatic scents and a kitchen garden for plundering, suggest a Provencal auberge, but the welcome is uniquely South African. Don't expect haute cuisine, this is fresh country fare, and changing daily.Spinach coconut cream enhances just-seared salmon, basil tomato sauce flavours roast fillet with feta.
3.5 star food, 5 star value.

Cuisine is when things taste like what they are/ prue leith

Trinity is one of our favorite places and a stop-over on our extra-ordinary Wild Wine Odyssey. Click here for more information, dates and prices on our Wild Wine Odyssey.

Trinity is also our home away on the very exciting GO GREEN beginners golf. Click here for information on price and dates.

The Farmyard
The FarmyardHowever, it is not only the top 100 places that offer value for money. The friendly, open and world wide well known South African hospitality includes everyone.

Just look at this tempting treat at the Farmyard on the West Coast just outside Cape Town. Well, sadly for the dogs, they were left at home in the garden on this excursion.

In the other guide (available at the airport and info centres) we get the following information. Some of the winners in this year's Other Awards:

The M-Bar
The M-BarBest Bar Award.
M-Bar at the Metropole Hotel in Long Street Cape Town. With its garish poppy-red interiors, this bar is the latest in a growing number of sexy hotel bars. It has managed to gain and hold onto the fickle 30-something crowd in a short period of time.

Best value restaurant.
There were some excellent finalist here but the winner is? Home in Kenilworth. The cheap and very cheerful restaurant features the menu on blackboards and offer excellent home-style cuisine.

Township experience award
The townships are an established part of the Cape's tourist industry and more entrepreneurs are opening quality service. After much debate on the other Awards panel the winner is ? the inimitable Vicky Ntozini of Vicky's B+B in Khayelitsha.
