15N Botswana Safari by Jeep

For an ‘All Inclusive’ African Style Land Rover Safari to Botswana starting in Johannesburg via the Okavango Delta, the spectacular Victoria Falls, the new Mapungubwe National Park (World Heritage Site) and back to Johannesburg with scheduled dates and limited participation of 3-10 persons.

16 Days - "Botswana Safari"

Johannesburg - Okavango Delta - Victoria Falls and back

(or 12 Days Option: Johannesburg - Okavango Delta - Victoria Falls)

Day 1:

  • Arrival at Johannesburg International Airport in the morning.

  • Welcome by our guide and transfer to the Kwenda Safari premises in Kyalami (30 min. north of Johannesburg); alternatively collection from any Hotel in the Johannesburg/Pretoria area.

  • Small brunch, storing of luggage, introduction and update on routing, instruction on equipment and vehicles.

  • Departure for Pilanesberg National Park at about lunch time (2 hours drive).

  • First Game Drive in Pilanesberg ("Big Five Area") in the afternoon.

  • Setting up camp, dinner (South African "Braai") on campsite.

Day 2:

  • Breakfast, taking down of tents.

  • Short Game Drive through the park.

  • Heading for Botswana, border post.

  • Arrival at Khama Rhino Sanctuary in the afternoon.

Day 3:

  • After breakfast tracing of rhinos.

  • Proceeding northbound towards the Makgadikgadi Pans.

  • In the afternoon search for a remote overnight spot in the Pans either at Kukanje or Kubu Island - no campsite (no facilities), just in the middle of the Makgadikgadi Pans. We will enjoy our campfire in absolute silence, under the fantastic African Sky (weather permitting).

  • Alternatively visit of the Makgadikgadi Pans Game Reserve or the Nxai Pans National Park and stay at one of their camps.

Day 4:

  • Heading north for the tarmac road connecting Francistown and Maun.

  • Arrival at Maun, stocking up fuel and groceries.

  • Setting up camp at Crocodile or Audi Camp, where we have dinner at their respective restaurant.

Day 5:

  • Sight-seeing flight over the "jewel in Botswana’s crown", the Okavango Delta (duration approx. 30 min).

  • Progressing to Moremi, one of Botswana’s most scenic Game Reserves. Arrival in the afternoon.

  • Our overnight camp will be unfenced and next to the river.

Day 6:

  • On a two hours Mokoro Trip (traditional dug-out canoe) in the swamps of the unique Okavango Delta we will get close to many hippos, crocodiles and over 350 species of birds.

  • Extended Afternoon Game Drive to experience untamed Africa and the variety of its wild animals.

  • Dinner at the Camp.

Day 7:

  • Leaving Moremi following the Khwai River with direction Chobe National Park.

  • On very sandy tracks, our Land Rovers again have to prove their unquestionable off-road capabilities.

  • Arrival at the Savuti Camp in the afternoon.

Day 8:

  • Today we have ample time to explore the magnificent Savuti area reknown for its huge herds of elephants. There is also a fairly good chance to encounter lions, as there are usually many of them in this area.

  • Returning back to our camp at Savuti.

Day 9:

  • Today we follow the tracks to Chobe River, where we arrive at the Chobe Safari Lodge (near Kasane) in the early afternoon.

  • At about 15:00 we embark for a 3 hours River Cruise and experience wildlife from a different perspective.

  • For the night we settle at the camp grounds of the Chobe Safari Lodge.

Day 10:

  • After breakfast we are leaving Botswana, cross the border into Zimbabwe and arrive at Victoria Falls in the early afternoon.

  • On a walk we admire the spectacular Victoria Falls.

  • In the evening we leave the bush experience behind and enjoy dinner in "colonial style" at the legendary Victoria Falls Hotel.

  • Tonight we stay at the nearby campsite of the Inyathi Valley Lodge.

Day 11:

  • This day can be used at your own discretion, you may want to shop around for souvenirs, do a ‘Flight of Angels’ by plane/helicopter viewing the Falls again, ‘White Water Rafting’, ride on the back of an elephant, etc. (Please note, that all these activities, however, are at your own expense).

  • Our camp is still at Inyathi Valley Lodge.

Day 12:

  • Guests who booked the 12 days option "Johannesburg to Victoria Falls", will be transferred to the airport of Victoria Falls for their return flight to Johannesburg.

  • All others will leave Victoria Falls after breakfast and cross the border back into Botswana, heading South to arrive in Nata in the early afternoon.

  • Visit of the Nata Bird Sanctuary with its prolific birdlife and more than 160 species. During the wet season one can also admire thousands of pink flamingos and pelicans. For the night we stay over at the beautiful Nata Lodge campsite.

Day 13:

  • Via Francistown we head Southeast crossing the Limpopo River, border with South Africa. We arrive at our camp right next to the river where the Tuli-Elephants migrate freely between Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

  • Sculling down the Limpopo River in a rafting boat we will be looking for Elephant, Hippo, Crocodile and the elusive Pel’s Fishing Owl – a photographer’s dream!

Day 14:

  • This early morning we set out for a 3 hours Game Walk accompanied by an armed local ranger. The expedition, takes us deep into the Limpopo flood plain where we not only encounter animals on foot, but also smell them and the Mopane Bush and listen to the diverse voices of this striking area.

  • After a late bush-breakfast we follow the path of Livingstone and Cecil Rhodes on which we climb the majestic Sandstone Hills with their ancient ruins from the 13th century. This ‘African Late Iron Age’ archaeological site lies in the new Mapungubwe National Park and was declared World Heritage Site in July 2003. San Bushman rock paintings and even dinosaur fossils are to be found.

  • This evening we will enjoy Africa’s nocturnal fauna on a Game Drive at night in an open vehicle.

Day 15:

  • At early sunrise we join the researchers of the Venetia Wild Dog Project. This endangered species is tracked in the wild via radio signal and we are offered the opportunity to participate in the daily search of the scientists determining the wild dogs pack dynamics and hunting behaviour.

  • In the afternoon we reach the Waterberg Country Lodge bordering with the Marakele National Park and the adjacent UNESCO Biosphere Reserve for the endangered Cape Vultures.

  • On our last evening we will enjoy a delicious dinner with South African wine in the lodge’s private dining room. This place combines breathtaking views, quietness and vultures high up in the sky with the comfort of a solid bed.

Day 16:

  • Ample time on our last morning allows us a final game drive or just relaxation as we only have a merely 3 hours drive to Johannesburg.

  • In the afternoon we enjoy tea or coffee at KWENDA SAFARI’s in Kyalami - thereafter transfer to the JHB-International Airport for your flight home or alternatively to any Hotel within the Johannesburg/Pretoria area.

We reserves the right to change the itinerary due to unexpected changes of conditions as adverse road or weather conditions, non-availability of booked accommodations or activities, mechanical breakdowns, illness of a group member, political instability, force majeure or any other reason especially if safety concerns may arise.

But even in such an event, we will endeavour is still to conduct every tour as interesting, enjoyable, convenient and safe as possible.

This trip willd epart with a minimum of 3 persons.

16-days Botswana Safari as described in the attached itinerary:

Transport in Land Rover/s 110 Defender Tdi/Td5 (max. 3 vehicles), spacious and comfortable late model vehicles with air-conditioning, rooftop tent/s for 2 persons each, 40-ltr.-compressor-refridgerator, water tank and complete camping- and expedition equipment.

Professional services of experienced tour guide, driver/s and cook (English speaking).

Safari as per attached itinerary: Including breakfast, lunch snack and dinner (first day brunch and dinner only, last day breakfast, lunch and tea/coffee in the afternoon only – or as indicated in the itinerary), drinks *), accommodation in comfortable roof top tents with mattress for 2 persons sharing as standard/add. canvas safari style ground tent with mattress for ‘single’ travelers, one night of chalet accommodation in a double room sharing on Day 15 (Waterberg Country Lodge), 3x restaurant visits including wine/beer – at Maun, Victoria Falls and Waterberg Country Lodge, all costs for the vehicle/s (diesel, oil, insurances, toll fees, damages to the vehicle and tyres, etc.), all camping- and entrance fees for National Parks/Game Reserves (in Botswana very expensive) incl. Kubu Island and Victoria Falls, activities/excursions as sight-seeing flight over the Okavango Delta (30 min.), canoe trip in traditional ‘mokoro’ (approx. 2 hrs.), 3 hours afternoon boat cruise on the Chobe River, river tour in rafting boats on the Limpopo River (2-3 hrs.), Game Walk with local ranger into the Limpopo flood plain, Game Drive at night in an open ‘Viewing Vehicle’, Wild Dog Tracking, visit of one of the world’s largest Cape Vulture Colonies at Marakele National Park, airport/hotel transfers.

*) incl. beverages as tea, coffee and juices in the morning, water during the day and beer or South African wine in the evening (max. 3 beers or half a bottle of white or red wine per person). Sugared ‘Soft-Drinks’ and ‘hard alcoholic’ drinks will be for the guest’s account.

Not included : Airline tickets to and from Johannesburg (JHB), airport taxes and visa fees (currently 30,- U$ for Zimbabwe), any activities at Victoria Falls or other than described in the itinerary, tips or gratuities, personal expenses as i.e. for souvenirs, etc., medical aid costs.

Airfares from Victoria Falls/Livingstone to Johannesburg on 12-Days-Option – additional accommodation and airfares can be booked on request for extra costs.

We recommend that guests bring their own sleeping bags, otherwise we supply them free of charge. Mattresses, pillows and sheets are provided.

Departure Dates :

From 3 people onwards we also depart at any time requested – please consult us to confirm desired dates.

Children from 12 years upwards are regarded as adults, children below 12 years pay 80%.

Health: Anyone participating in our Safaris should be in good health and a certain tolerance towards temperatures (especially high temperatures during summer) and dust is required.

All personal medication should be carried with, together with a copy of the prescription.

A medical travel insurance is compulsory – to be arranged by the client/s in the country of origin. A comprehensive travel insurance to cover cancellation fees, damage/theft/loss of personal baggage, etc. is recommended. Malaria prophylaxis is also highly recommended !!!

Age Limits: We have no upper age restriction on our Safaris, but respectfully request that only healthy and physically active people may join. The lower limit is 8 years, unless their group books out the entire tour (minimum of 7 persons).

Participants: Departures are guaranteed from already 3 participants; therefore we reserve the right to cancel a Safari, if the minimum amount of bookings is not achieved until 4 weeks prior scheduled departure day. In such an event, we either offer a place on another Safari or the already paid fare price will be refunded in full (customer to decide). The maximum amount of persons on our Safaris is 10, travelling in 3 Land Rovers and one fully equipped off-road trailer. However, our aim is to limit the amount of people to a maximum of 6-7 travelling in two vehicles only!

Payment: 35% of the safari costs are required within 7 days after receipt of booking confirmation as a reservation deposit (by bank transfer only). The balance becomes due 8 weeks prior commencement. Prices are fixed until 31.12.2005!

Cancellation Fees: >8 weeks: 35%, 2-8 weeks: 70%, thereafter 90% of Safari costs (additional bookings are not refundable), no refund for early termination of the Safari.
