Tubu Tree Camp is situated in the 60.000 hectare Jao Reserve which borders the Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana's Okavango Delta. The Camp is a traditional style tented safari camp built on raised wooden platforms to take best advantage of the beautiful view over the floodplains. The camp accommodates guests in 5 large, comfortable tents, each with a small, private deck in front. All the tents have en suite bathroom facilities and private outdoor shower. The main dining and lounge areas are also large tents on raised platforms, with an outdoor pub area built under the canopy of a large Marula tree. Activities at Tubu Tree Camp include day and night game drives in open 4 x 4 vehicles, as well as walking with an armed guide. When the Okavango's annual flood is at its highest (normally May to late September), boating, fishing and mokoro trips are also offered. A variety of habitats ensures diverse and interesting game viewing. Wildlife seen here includes elephant, Lion, Zebra, Red Lechwe, Giraffe, Tsessebe, Wildebeest as well as Kudu, Impala, Leopard and Bushbuck. LOCATION - In the Jao reserve, on Hunda Island, western Okavango Delta. - Moremi Game Reserve borders the east ACCOMMODATION Number of tents: Five tented rooms consisting of: - 4 x ¾ twin bedded tents - One kingsize-bedded honeymoon tent - One guide tent (same standard as a guest tent) This camp can accommodate 10 guests with tour leader TENT DETAILS: - East African Style tents on 2-3m raised decks - All tents have verandas overlooking the floodplains with spectacular views - Main entrance to tent is by door - Fans in all guests tents - En-suite facilities with an outdoor shower - Soaps, shampoos and insect repellents are supplied in each tent CAMP DESCRIPTION - Large open & airy tented lounge & tented dining room, built on raised platforms - Landscape view from pub & dining area - Evening campfire - Curio shop - Plunge pool - Slide projector available GAME VIEWING The area is a combination of open grasslands, dry forest and shallow floodplains. Therefore game viewing is varied. Giraffe, Elephant, Lion, Warthog, Lechwe, Hippo, Leopard, Cheetah, Tsessebe, Buffalo, Serval, Aardwolf plus all the plains game. ACTIVITIES - Land game drives in open 4 x 4 Land Rovers - the camp has 3 x 10 seater Land Rovers each accommodating a maximum of seven guests, allowing all guests an outside seat. - Private vehicle available on request. - Night drives with spot light - Walking Safaris are offered from camp on a request basis - 7 x 2 seater mekoro - 1 x 12 seater boat (subject to water levels permitting its use) - Fishing on a catch and release basis (can book fly fishing with specialist fly fisher Grant. This must be booked prior to travel). Basic rods & reels supplied by camp but fly fishing equipment to be supplied by guest. - A raised hide located about 20 minutes from camp (which can be used for sleep outs - maximum 4 people at a time, has a long drop loo and outside shower). Below is only a suggestion as to what may happen in camp - as daily wildlife sightings tend to throw the schedule right out of schedule.
Summer/winter 05h00/06h00 - Wake up call. Light continental breakfast consisting of cereals, tea/coffee/juices and pastries to be served in the dining area. 05h30/06h30 - Depart on morning activity, returning to camp at approximately 10h00. 10h00/11h00 - Brunch will be served, this will consist of a selection of breakfast and lunch dishes. From now until afternoon tea, guests will be at leisure. Bird walks, talks and a visit to the hide are informally offered. 16h00/15h00 - Afternoon tea will be served - this will consist of a selection of sweet and savoury snacks. 16h30/15h30 - Depart on afternoon game viewing activity - drinks and snacks will be served for sundowners during the course of the activity. 19h30/19h00 - Return to camp (but could be later if good game sightings). 20h00/19h30 - Pre-dinner drinks and snacks are served at the pub 20h30/20h00 - Three course dinner- generally speaking the starter and desert is served, whilst the main course is buffet style. 21h30/21h00 - Coffee and liqueurs will be served at the camp fire. ELECTRICITY & WATER - Camp has 220v generator powered electricity run in kitchen and main areas when guests are not in camp. When guests return from daily activities, generators usually switched off (for peace in camp). - 220v Battery power (charged by the generator) is used for lighting & fans in each guest tent 24hrs/day. - Video battery can be charged when guests on game drives. Hence bring spare battery, adaptor and charging unit. - Electric geyser heater water - No facilities for hairdryers and electric shavers DRINKS POLICY All drinks are included in the nightly tariff, with the exception of premium wines & champagne and premium Liqueurs & spirits. LAUNDY POLICY Laundry is done on a daily basis and inclusive in the nightly tariff with the exception of "smalls" i.e. underwear, which are not washed due to local customs. EXTRAS PAYMENT Curios, imported drinks and tip/gratuities can be billed to the tent number and settled on check out. Payment can be effected by cash (US$), travellers' cheques or the following credit cards: Visa or MasterCard.
