Chobe National Park encompasses 11 700 km2 of wilderness, bordered in the north by the beautiful Chobe River, and buffered on all sides by wildlife management areas and forest reserves allowing for the free movement of game. A wildlife enthusiast’s dream, Chobe National Park is one of the top wilderness reserves in the world and is home to the largest single concentration of elephant. Throughout the year, herds of buffalo and elephant can be seen drinking at the river’s edge with their numbers swelling into hundreds and thousands during the dry season. Chobe is renowned for the largest elephant population in Africa. Elephants are huge leviathans of the bush, yet such gentle 'family orientated' creatures and you will certainly get to view these giants in great numbers Two species of region-specific antelope occur here, the puku and the Chobe bushbuck, which cannot be seen in other parts of Botswana except on the Chobe riverfront. Due to the variety of the Chobe vegetation and geological features, this magnificent wildlife sanctuary offers extreme contrasts and a fantastic cross-section of wildlife. We meet in Kasane on your arrival and transfer by road to our private campsite in Chobe National Park. The drive to the Chobe River takes about one hour. TERRAIN: Along the Chobe riverfront the terrain is that of a typical riverine ecosystem. Away from the river we have mixed miombo and broadleaved woodland that harbours rich avifauna. GAME: Northern Chobe is famous for its elephant & buffalo herds, puku, kudu, Chobe bushbuck and hippo. One could also hope to see: lion, leopard, wild dog, giraffe, waterbuck, zebra, impala, baboon, vervet monkeys, warthog, sable, roan, lechwe, banded mongoose, crocodile, leguan. ACTIVITIES: Game drives; birding: safari river cruises RIVER CRUISES: we commence on an exhilarating 3 hour boat cruise into the Chobe National Park, easily one of the highlights of this trip. From aboard our river safari, one gets the opportunity to get up close and personal with fantastic bird life, hippo, crocodiles and of course, scores of elephant and Cape buffalo that make their way down to the river to quench their thirst. As it starts to cool off, we head out for another afternoon safari in search of further wildlife activity. The Chobe National Park has a wide variety of game, from all of Africa's cats, wild dog, hyena and many other predators like side striped jackal, to large herbivores with elephant and buffalo being a highlight. Once again return to camp after sunset for dinner to reflect on the day whilst being accompanied by the unforgettable sounds of the African night. Hot showers are available to wash off the day’s heat and dust. You step into your private outdooor shower, and with a steaming hot water bucket shower all ready for you..rejuvinating, and refreshing. The tents have private patio area with chairs complete for you to enjoy the wonders of the bush. Dinner is served in the dining tent or under the stars to the blissful call of lions, hyena and jackal.
